  1. The colour of everything
Especially on a beautiful sunny day, the wonderful ochres, reds and golds that you see on the trees are amazing. When the sun is low in the sky and behind the trees, it makes for a stunning photograph. Even although it’s getting colder, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
  2. Hot Chocolate & marshmallows
Do we actually need an excuse – or a season for this one? Nah, I didn’t think so. There’s nothing I love more than putting the heating on and cuddling up with the kids on the sofa under a blanket, sipping at a mug of velvety hot chocolate, and of course baby marshmallows on top.
  3. Conkers
Going on a long walk through the woods, to find the biggest and best conkers. Taking them home and threading them onto a piece of cord – maybe even a little bit of varnish to make them extra strong? What do you mean that’s cheating?!?
  4. Halloween
Carving pumpkins, homemade costumes and decorations, all things eerie & spooky, spiders, ghosts & ghoulies. It’s the one night where its ok to feel a little scared, but also ok to be a little bit mischievous too. Oh, and did I mention all the sweeties for trick or treat!
  5. Bonfire Night
Toffee apples, wrapping up warm, gloves, scarves, hats, sparklers. Watching the local bonfire display then heading home to defrost and watch mindless tv such as the X Factor or Strictly.
  6. Big clothes
We might tend to gain a few pounds, what with all the hot chocolate and yummy sweeties from Halloween, but worry not, you can get out your chunky knit oversized jumpers, hats and scarves and hide away until the spring.
  7. Homemade Soup
Cold days are all about tucking into a delicious, nutritious, steaming bowl of homemade lentil & veggie soup. It’s so easy to make and great for freezing in individual portions and using throughout the week.
  8. Santa is on his way
I know, the dreaded C word. It seems to start earlier and earlier every year, but only once Halloween and Bonfire night are out the way, it’s ok in my book to talk about Christmas & make a start to the shopping, if the bargain hunters haven’t already. But the tree will NOT be going up until the 1s t of December!
  9. On a cold and frosty morning
You know Winter isn’t far away, when you open the curtains and Jack Frost has left his mark everywhere you look. Everything glistens and sparkles. Ok, you might have to be organised a little bit earlier to defrost the car, but you can see your breath while you do it.
  10. Hot water bottles
It’s totally acceptable to take your hot water bottle all over the house with you. No, they’re not just for bed. Even take it in the car with you until you get to work – hell – take it into work with you too, why not, eh?
